New iPad Pro models: Allegedly with the "best OLED panel on the market"
Apple has used OLED only in iPhones and Apple Watches. Now, they plan a larger, high-quality OLED for the 2024 iPad Pro.

Apple's new iPads will most likely be unveiled next week. A well-known display expert has now commented on the OLED screens that are likely to be installed for the first time. In his opinion, Apple relies on high quality from its suppliers – LG and Samsung – and thus achieves "by far the best OLED panel" for a tablet on the current market.
High brightness, improved battery life?
The new display – Apple is probably planning an 11-inch and a 12.9-inch version – is "ultra-thin and light" thanks to tandem stack construction and glass thinning, uses LTPO technology and achieves a refresh rate of 120 hertz, says Ross Young from Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), who has good contacts in Apple's supply chain.
As Apple is the dominant tablet provider, the switch to OLED will significantly drive the growth of the OLED tablet market in 2024, Young continues. He expects the displays to offer improved brightness combined with reduced energy consumption and a "long service life" for the panels. Apple is also said to have solved the well-known burn-in problem.
From small displays to (relatively) large ones
Apple's use of OLED is currently limited to the Apple Watch and the iPhone. The available display sizes are relatively small - from 1.69 inches in the smaller Apple Watch Series 9 to 6.7 inches in the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple has not yet installed larger screens with organic light-emitting diodes. A project to build larger micro-LED displays is now said to have been scrapped or at least slowed down. OLED screens are also conceivable for MacBooks – whether this year or later remains unclear.
The iPad Pro 2024 is still expected to have a new SoC. It could be the AI-optimized Apple chip M4, which is not yet found in any other Apple device. Finally, a new stylus with a vibration motor is allegedly being planned, which may only be intended for the iPad Pro. There is also speculation about a new Magic Keyboard, this time made of aluminum instead of plastic. The Apple event will take place next Tuesday at 4 p.m. Central European Time - unusually early for the company's keynotes.
